Because I've had off from work the past couple of days I figured I'd go do a little exploring. I found out the the local auto-hobby shop has bays with lifts that you can rent for $6 an hour, most tool rentals don't cost any extra (unless you lose them, then it's $20 per tool).
I changed my oil mostly so I could have an excuse to get under my car and look around, scouting for potential future projects. Both new springs and sway bars seem very tempting and an exhaust is enticing but I'd have to cut the stock pipes out which is a bummer.

Cool. We had things like this on base, but I didn't realize anybody did that for the general public.

I was surprised how by cheap it was, I will definitely be going there instead of trying to use jack stands in the parking lot.

It's on base, I had just never gone and asked about it.

Dude, take a pic of your FiST on the lift so I can see where a good mount point is, I haven't put mine on the lift yet and I'm scared I'm gonna destroy the side skirts if I don't know what I'm doing

Unfortunately I didn't take a picture with it up there!

Needs Turbo
![]() 12/18/2014 at 14:09 |

The FiST has turbo.
Unless you mean a bigger turbo or more turbos.. 1.6TT Fiesta is a brilliant idea.

Don't forget they have a computer for you to use with an All-Data subscription: step-by-step instructions for most repairs for most cars. They have more tools than I'll ever amass or could afford. They will also let you leave the car overnight on the lift or extended periods for $25 a day. My base also has a motorized car dolly so you can pull a non-working car on and off the lift (my inside man said use this and put your car in the adjacent parking lot to avoid storage fees).

You're awesome man

heck yeah! I did the mods on my old E46 at the hobby shop. Springs, shocks, bushings, exhaust. Where I really learned some wrenching skills.
A guy is swapping an engine from an E36 M3 into an E30 touring on the air base.

It's a pretty sweet little set up down there, I was really surprised at how cheap it was. I'll be here for a few more years so slowly as the Fiesta spends more and more time down there it'll get faster and faster!
The E30 touring is already cool as hell, it should be pretty awesome when it's all done!

Awesome info! Maybe eventually I'll be able to pick up an old euro-trash project car and do some work there!

That. Is. Awesome!
Please tell me you/secret hobby place close to me. I will be even more happy lol
